MaxxFan (4-Speed & 10-Speed) Troubleshooting Guide
MaxxFan roof vents, available in both 4-speed (standard) and 10-speed (deluxe) versions, are powered by your trailer’s 12V battery system.
Tools Needed
-
Digital voltmeter/multimeter
-
Phillips screwdriver
Step 1: Fan Not Working at All
Check the basics:
-
Is your trailer’s battery charged and turned on?
-
Is the battery disconnect switch in the “ON” position?
-
Is the fuse panel (cabin, foot of the bed) showing any blown fuses? Look for the fuse labeled “Fan”.
Test the fan controls:
-
Ensure the fan lid is open.
-
Try multiple speed settings.
-
On 10-speed models: Test both the wall remote (if equipped) and onboard controls.
Step 2: Check the Fan Fuse
Open the fuse panel in the cabin at the foot of the bed.
Locate the fuse labeled “Fan.”
Check the fuse:
-
The MaxxFan always uses a 5-amp fuse.
-
If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new 5A blade fuse.
-
Never substitute a higher-amp fuse, as this could damage your wiring.
Step 3: Check for Power at the Fan
Remove the fan’s interior trim bezel:
-
Held in place with a four Phillips screws.
-
Gently pull down the trim to access fan wiring.
Test for 12V power:
-
Set your multimeter to DC volts.
-
Probe the red (+) and black (–) wires supplying the fan.
-
You should see 12–13 volts if your battery is charged and the fuse is good.
-
No voltage? There may be a wiring issue upstream—contact Timberleaf support.
Step 4: Fan Runs, But Has Issues
Fan works on some speeds only:
-
Try turning it off, waiting 10 seconds, and turning it back on.
-
If it only works on certain speeds, the speed selector or internal controller may be faulty.
Lid won’t open or close:
-
Ensure there’s no blockage.
-
Listen for the lid motor. If it’s weak or stuck, clean the tracks and check for debris.
-
On 10-speed: Try both the wall remote and onboard controls.
Weak airflow:
-
Remove and clean the bug screen.
-
Check for obstructions at the vent or blades.
Step 5: Common Error Signs
-
Fan won’t run with lid closed:
This is normal; MaxxFans are designed not to operate with the lid closed. -
Flashing lights or beeping (10-speed):
Unplug the fan (pull the fuse), wait 30 seconds, and reinstall. Persistent errors: note the pattern and contact Timberleaf support. -
Wall remote not responding (10-speed):
-
Replace remote batteries.
-
Try the onboard controls.
Step 6: When to Call for Help
If the fan still won’t run, or you notice any burning smells, melted wires, or intermittent operation after replacing the 5A fuse:
-
Note your steps, which fan model you have, and any test results.
-
Take photos of the fuse panel, fan wiring, and any error lights.
-
Contact Timberleaf support. If your trailer is under warranty, we’ll supply parts; otherwise, we can help with troubleshooting or sell replacements.
