Timberleaf Power Center Troubleshooting Guide

Your trailer’s power center is the heart of its electrical system, managing both AC (shore power) and DC (battery) circuits. Depending on your trailer’s age, you’ll find one of three models:

Model Years Power Center Model Notes
2016–2020 Parallax 6730D Basic fuse panel and converter/charger
2020–mid 2024 Progressive Dynamics PD4100 Horizontal install, converter on the right
Mid 2024–present Progressive Dynamics PD4000 Horizontal install, converter on the left

Tip: Your power center is found in the cabin at the foot of the bed. Look for a label inside the panel or compare photos in your owner’s manual to confirm your model.

Common Power Center Issues

  1. No DC power (lights/fans/etc. dead)

  2. No AC power (outlets not working)

  3. Battery not charging

  4. Converter fan runs constantly or is silent

  5. Blown fuses or tripped breakers

Step 1: Identify Your Power Center

  • Parallax 6730D: Older, upright metal box, minimal LEDs or indicators.

  • PD4100: Wider black panel, converter/charger section on the right, “Lithium/Lead Acid” mode switch.

  • PD4000: Similar black panel, but converter/charger section on the left.

Step 2: Basic Safety

  • Unplug shore power and turn off the battery disconnect switch before removing covers.

  • Always use caution—if in doubt, contact Timberleaf or a qualified RV technician.

Step 3: Check for Power

A. No DC Power (Interior Lights, Fans, USB Outlets Dead)

  • Check the battery disconnect switch:
Make sure it’s in the “ON” position.

  • Check the battery voltage:
Use a multimeter at the battery terminals (should be ~12.5–13.5V at rest).

  • Check fuses in the power center:

    • Look for blown DC fuses—these are small “blade” style (ATC) fuses inside the power center.

    • Many models feature a row of small red LEDs that light up next to a blown fuse.

    • Replace blown fuses with the same type and rating.

  • Check reverse polarity fuses:

    • Both PD4000 and PD4100 have dedicated fuses to protect against battery hookup errors.

B. No AC Power (Standard Wall Outlets Dead)

  • Check shore power connection:

    • Make sure the exterior power cord is plugged in and the outlet is live.

  • Check AC breakers in the power center:

    • Reset any tripped breakers by switching fully “off” and back “on.”

    • Replace if the breaker won’t reset or stays loose.

  • Check for GFCI outlets:

    • If one outlet doesn’t work, but others do, try pressing “RESET” on any GFCI outlet.

C. Battery Not Charging

  • Check shore power is connected and working (see above).

  • Check converter fan:

    • If the trailer is plugged into shore power and the battery is low, you should hear a quiet fan in the power center.

  • Check converter output voltage:

    • Set your multimeter to DC volts, measure at the battery terminals with shore power plugged in:

      • PD4100/PD4000: 13.6V (normal), 14.4V (boost), or 14.6V (lithium mode)

      • Parallax 6730D: 13.2–14.0V (varies by battery state)

    • No increase in voltage with shore power? The converter may be faulty or a fuse may be blown.

  • Check converter fuses:

    • Both PD4100 and PD4000 have reverse polarity fuses (ATC/ATO blade fuses) to protect the converter.

    • Replace only with the same type and rating.

D. Converter Fan Issues

  • Fan runs constantly:

    • This usually means heavy battery charging or high electrical load—normal if battery is low or you’re using lots of power.

  • Fan never runs:

    • Could indicate the converter isn’t receiving AC power, or isn’t working. Check shore power and converter fuses.

Step 4: Model-Specific Notes

PD4100 and PD4000

  • Lithium/Lead Acid Mode Switch:

    • For lithium batteries, switch to “ON” or “LI” mode. For standard batteries, use “OFF” or “LA.”

  • Blown Fuse LEDs:

    • Each DC circuit has an LED that lights up if the fuse is blown.

  • Reverse Polarity Protection:

    • If you ever connect the battery backwards, replace the blown reverse polarity fuses (see your manual for location).

Parallax 6730D

  • Fewer indicators, but same basics—check fuses and shore power.

  • If converter is not charging the battery, check for blown fuses, loose wires, or faulty converter.

Step 5: When to Call for Help

If you’ve checked all the basics above and still have no power, or if you smell burning, see melted wires, or can’t identify the problem:

  • Note your power center model and what you’ve tested so far.

  • Take clear photos of the panel (with cover off if safe), fuses, and wiring.

  • Contact Timberleaf support with this information.

If your trailer is still under warranty, we can assist with parts or repairs. If not, we’re happy to walk you through troubleshooting and offer replacement parts for sale.
